We are all Healers

One of my earliest encounters with healing, was aged 9 or 10 watching a documentary on TV about a lady who was a healer, with my parents.

I watched absolutely entranced as she worked on somebody lying on a massage couch. She was moving her hands in a brushing motion above them, and she explained that she could see their energy. Apparently it looked like lots of tangled threads, and she was untangling them.

She said she’d been told many years previous that she was going to be a great healer.

I remember running out to play in the garden afterwards and thinking “Wow – I want to do that!”  I knew it was something I’d love to be able to do. My interest was piqued, and my healing journey had begun.

I assumed at the time that it was an ability that you either had or didn’t. How wrong I was, but I didn’t find out until many years later.

As a teenager, I was very drawn to crystals and started intuitively using them for healing on myself and my family members when they were unwell, as well as hands on healing that I attempted with some success. The problem was I didn’t know how to shield myself and one time even ended up taking the person’s pain on to myself. I stopped out of fear, and also a lack of confidence. I needed a teacher.

Like they say, when the student is ready, the teacher will appear!

In my early twenties I first discovered Reiki.

I remember going into a holistic shop & therapy centre called Bay Tree in Westbourne, Dorset and asking what this “Ree kee thingy” was? The very patient owner of Bay Tree, the wonderful Claudia Jones explained to me that it was a beautiful hands-on healing technique. I was fascinated, and booked in for my first session.

It made me feel so amazing, that I begged her to teach me immediately afterwards, signed up for my Reiki I training with her and never looked back.

But Reiki was just the beginning of my journey.

As I worked on my own clients and friends with the Reiki energies, I discovered that I had extra abilities that would come out as and when needed, or I’d discover a new technique I hadn’t been taught in my formal training.

We all have a natural ability to heal ourselves and others. I was simply discovering my own abilities alongside the Reiki energy that I was working with.

It’s been an exciting and insightful journey, and to this day I absolutely love doing my healing work.

Today, I am a formally trained Reiki Master & Teacher, but there is a lot more to my abilities that just Reiki. It’s just one of the seven healing energies I use. The other 6 came to me all by themselves, and I use all 7 beautiful rays of energy in my work.

They have enhanced my Reiki healing sessions and proved to me that we are all natural healers, and that includes you.

Sometimes you just need somebody or something (like my Reiki training) to help you to realise and get in touch with it.

  1. I loved hearing this story of your journey, Helen. I always thought healers were “born” too — I knew you could learn techniques, but thought you had to be naturally inclined to use them once learned.

  3. I love how you knew as a child that being a healer was for you! I’m even more impressed that you didn’t let the dream go and consider it to be silly….or weird like so many other people do.

It’s one of the many reasons why i think you rock Helen!

  4. Great story. And I see many parallels in my own life…working intuitively, picking up a hideous sinus infection and being scared off and finding Reiki. I wonder what’s next on your journey?
